Details
Advanced 5-in-1 Formula
- Di-octahedral Smectite Clay
- Probiotics
- Prebiotics
- L-Glutamine
- Electrolytes
How it helps your equine patients
- Adsorbent bioactive clay supports toxin removal
- The research-supported probiotic strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii (which can be used concurrently with antibiotic therapy) helps maintain a healthy microbial population in the horse’s GI tract
- Complementary prebiotics nourish and support the stressed microbiome
- L-glutamine, an important amino acid and the enterocytes’ preferred energy source, supports healing of the GI tract lining at the cellular level
- Electrolytes support re-hydration after fluid loss
How it helps you provide the best care
- This powdered formula is finely milled and silky smooth, allowing it to mix into solution easily in water (start with the powder in the bucket first, then add water gradually while mixing)
- Flows smoothly through the the nasogastric tube – no more clogging or “ratcheting” feeling from caked product in the pump, and an easier experience for your equine patients
- Helps address colonic distress from multiple angles - toxin removal, microbiome support, enterocyte health, and fluid balance - all in one.

FAQ's
How does this formula differ from BioSponge® and Bio-Absorb?
BioSponge and Bio-Adsorb also provide adsorbent dioctahedral smectite clay to support toxin removal from the digestive tract. However our BioClay Plus Paste also provides probiotics and prebiotics (for microbiome support), L-glutamine (to aid the cellular health of the GI tract), and electrolytes (to help with hydration), which means this FullBucket formula provides a broader strategy of support for your canine's gut.
How does this formula differ from Assure®Guard Gold-NG?
The primary ingredient in AssureGuard Gold-NG is psyllium seed husk, used primarily to purge sand from the horse’s GI tract, whereas the primary ingredient in FullBucket’s BioClay Plus is a bioactive clay, included to help adsorb toxins from the gut.
I thought it was a bad idea to feed/administer probiotics at the same time as an adsorbent clay, but your formula contains both. Does the clay adsorb the probiotics before they can have a benefit on the microbiome?
This formula’s primary probiotic, Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii, is a large, complex yeast organism made up of mannoproteins and glucans. S. boulardii is too large for the direct adsorption mechanisms of smectite clay, which binds smaller molecules, ions, and bacterial cells. Additionally, charge dynamics are a factor; S. boulardii has a to slightly negative surface charge, repelling any affinity for the negatively charged smectite clay. Smectite clay’s adsorption mechanism primarily targets positively charged toxins and bacteria, further reducing the likelihood of interaction with S. boulardii. Lastly, S. boulardii promotes healthy microbial populations in the gut and the smectite clay promotes formation of beneficial biofilms. Therefore together, the S. boulardii and smectite clay promote healthy microbial populations and biofilms to protect the gut during the period of distress.
As a veterinarian, what is the best method for mixing this product into solution before administering it via NG tube?
Our team of FullBucket veterinarians recommend starting with the powder in the bucket and then adding 6 L of water a little at a time. We like to say, “it’s like making gravy” – meaning, don’t put all the liquid in at once or you'll get lumps.
I’m a horse owner, why can’t I purchase this powder version of BioClay Plus Powder?
The powder form of BioClay Plus is only available for veterinarians because it was formulated to be administered via nasogastric tube as part of your veterinarian’s treatment plan, when working to quickly address serious and/or sudden-onset loose manure and colonic distress. We offer the same formulation in an easy-to-administer oral paste that is available for horse owners to purchase here. This is a great option to have on hand for more mild cases of GI upset, and the paste may be recommended by your veterinarian when your horse is recovering from his initial treatment. Either way, we always recommend talking to your veterinarian whenever digestive concerns arise.
