Building and Keeping Momentum

My children love the local public playground and the last time I had a day free they talked me into going.
 
The beautiful day brought several families out who all had the same idea and the grounds were alive with the screams of carefree kids.
 
One of their favorite stations is an old, iron merry-go-round with looping handles sprouting from thick diamond plating. This particular apparatus has to be a hundred years old and was built to last. It weighs a ton.
